Brainspotting Consultant Training for practitioners looking to deepen their expertise, support other therapists, and advance their trauma healing practice.

After certification, becoming a Brainspotting Consultant is the next level of growth that allows you to deepen your clinical practice, as well as develop as a guide for other healers in their certification journey. This program involves mastering Phases 1 and 2, crystallizing your embodiment of Brainspotting principles—such as attunement, being with uncertainty, social justice, and anti-oppression frameworks, grasping the neuroscience behind Brainspotting, and enhancing leadership skills to prepare others for certification. This program is taught from a decolonized ethos and will require participants to actively dismantle their own conscious and unconscious oppressive beliefs with an emphasis on healing through community, centering BIPOC and indigenous voices, working within the collective and somatic fields, and emphasizes collaborative, non-hierarchical discussions and experiential learning over traditional Western teaching methods.

Topics will include an in-depth exploration of Brainspotting Phase 1 and 2 theory and skills, teaching and coaching strategies, self-reflection, communal skill building, readings and reflections from anti-oppressive thought leaders, group practices, role plays, and studying other Brainspotting-related and supplemental materials.

The program runs from January to November and the group meets monthly on the 3rd Tuesday from 10-12:30 pm central time. Participants will also engage in independent study, reviewing books, articles, videos, and other resources between sessions for a total of 8-10 hours a month outside of class.

After graduating and successfully completing the approval process, consultants are able to act as ambassadors for the Brainspotting community, offer consultation for certification, assist at trainings, and create specialty workshops related to Brainspotting.

Cohort members have continued support from Mariya during and after the program and are regarded and treated as loving space-tenders with the responsibility of nurturing the Brainspotting community.

1.) Has been a Certified Brainspotting Practitioner for a minimum of one year.
2.) Provide a letter of reference/recommendation from their certifying consultant (if this is not possible, the applicant will provide an explanation.)
3.) Has attended the most recently developed trainings LIVE: Phase 1 and Phase 2 (in-person or virtual)
4.) Has attending at least three of the following 4 trainings LIVE: Phase 3, Phase 4, Phase 5, or Master Class (in-person or virtual)
*Repeat trainings do not count towards the three required
*Intensives do not meet the advanced training requirement but are recognized for ongoing dedication to training
5.) Possesses the characteristics of an Approved Brainspotting Consultant and affirms Brainspotting culture.
6.) Engages in activities that promote Brainspotting.
7.) Demonstrates involvement in Brainspotting Community.
$2000 for the 11-month training
$250 for purchasing Phase 1 and 2 videos (if you do not already have them)
$50 for the Application for Approval as a Brainspotting Consultant
$100 for additional reading materials
TOTAL: Approximately $2400, paid in full or monthly installments over 9-11 months
Please read the prerequisite and eligibility requirements to ensure you meet criteria for applying. The below details are the requirements for the actual course.
This is a deep dive of Brainspotting theory, philosophy, and technique, taught from a decolonized perspective. It will require approximately 10-12 hours of study time monthly from January through November, ranging from readings, presentations, experientials, role plays, and other individual and group activities.
Live attendance at all scheduled sessions is required for this program. You may miss only one meeting time and will need to make up the meeting by watching the recording and following up on any assignments.
Participants must be self-motivated, organized, and be able to complete assignments in a timely manner, and also exhibit strong communication/leadership/self-reflection skills.
The application linked below will require that you submit the following items:
- copy of your CV/resume
- copy of your Brainspotting Certification completion certificate
- recommendation letter from your certifying consultant
- dates and names of trainers for your live Phase 1 and 2 training
The application will take approximately 30-45 minutes to complete.
To be considered, please submit your application by January 1, 2027.
After graduating and successfully completing the approval process, consultants are able to
1) act as ambassadors for the Brainspotting community
2) offer consultation for certification
3) assist at trainings
4) create specialty workshops related to Brainspotting.
The following standards are required to maintain approved consultant status:

1) Approval for Continuation as an Approved Brainspotting Consultant is required every two years
2) Assist at one Phase 1 training and one Phase 2 training (In-person or Virtual, the entire training).
3) Attend or assist one (entire) Advanced Training: Phases 3-5 or Masterclass (preferably one they have not previously taken)
4) Using the Continuation as an Approved Brainspotting Consultant Worksheet, the Consultant will prepare for one 120-minute (or two 60 minute) meeting with a Brainspotting Trainer in which the Consultant’s readiness for continuation is reviewed.
5) The review will include discussion of the Consultant’s clinical and consultation practice, and how they are keeping up with new developments in Brainspotting.
