Introduction to Brainspotting and Ketamine Therapy

This introductory training provides an overview of ketamine-assisted therapy through a Brainspotting-informed lens. Participants will explore the neurophysiological and experiential effects of ketamine, including its impact on trauma processing and non-ordinary states of consciousness. The presentation covers assessment, screening, and practical integration of both low-dose and high-dose ketamine in conjunction with Brainspotting. Emphasis is placed on ethical, legal, and culturally responsive frameworks, along with practical guidance for clinicians seeking to incorporate ketamine into Brainspotting and somatic trauma work.

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  1. Describe the basic pharmacology of ketamine and its clinical applications, including key considerations for assessment and screening.

  2. Explain how ketamine influences the nervous system, trauma processing, and neuroexperiential states.

  3. Identify core principles for incorporating low-dose ketamine within Brainspotting sessions.

  4. Differentiate the roles of Brainspotting in supporting both low-dose and high-dose (transpersonal) ketamine and psychedelic-assisted therapies.

  5. Apply ethical, legal, and culturally responsive considerations when integrating ketamine into clinical practice, including attention to set, setting, ritual, and equity.
